The press release issued by the company is as follows: The 7th edition of ‘the acquaintance meeting with the buyers- Istanbul and Beyond’’ was held in collaboration of Mobil Oil Türk A.Ş., which implements significant works to increase the efficiency and share of women in business life, together with the Weconnect International at Renaissance Istanbul Polat Bosphorus Hotel. Emphasizing that only 1 percent of the total financing around the world is provided to women; Eda Demir, Sustainability Manager of Exxonmobil Lubricants for Europe, Africa and Middle East said: “The government tenders awarded to women is still at the same percentage. According to a financial study, if women and men were given equal rights today, the world's gross national product would increase by 28 trillion USD. We are talking about an extremely huge amount of resources that are not used today".
Mobil Oil Türk A.Ş., the first lubricant and fuel company founded in Turkey, continues its efforts to increase the female population in the business world. In this regard, Mobil Oil Türk A.Ş. provides women with the chance to develop their networks through its exemplary collaboration with the Weconnect International, which offers opportunities for women business owners in many countries around the world to be included in the supply chain of large corporations.
The 7th edition of ‘the acquaintance meeting with the buyers- Istanbul and Beyond’’ was held at the Renaissance Istanbul Polat Bosphorus Hotel with intense participation. A huge resource remains unused! The purpose of the event is to support women businesses around the world and in Turkey and to "empower women in the supply chain". During the event, senior executives of many global and local companies which adopt the principle of "diversity in supply" and which aim to include women business owners in their supply chains came together. Drawing attention to the importance of women in business life, Eda Demir, Sustainability Manager of Exxonmobil Lubricants for Europe, Africa and Middle East said: "According to a study conducted by the World Bank, when economic support is provided to women business owners or women, those women give back 90 percent of this support to health, education and the environment". Emphasizing that only 1 percent of the total financing in the world is provided to women, she added: ‘‘The government tenders awarded to women is still at the same percentage’’.
She also said: ‘‘According to a financial study, if women and men were given equal rights today, the world's gross national product would increase by 28 trillion USD. We are talking about an extremely huge amount of resources that are not used today. Only 1.3 percent of the businesses are owned by women!’’ Drawing attention to the fact that Turkey is far behind even according to the OECD, Eda Demir remarked: “Our female population is half of the total population, but only approximately 25 percent are women in business life. When we look at our women in business life, they are seasonal workers and mostly agricultural workers. The women business ownership ratio is 1.3 percent. On the one hand, there is a very intelligent, productive gender group, which we fail to use their full potential. Now Exxon Mobil is well aware of this fact on a global level. We have been supporting an initiative called the Women's Economic Opportunity for years. As you know, the United Nations has 17 sustainability goals. We are striving to achieve 14 of these goals, but the social focus for us is health, education and women. We will continue to create opportunities for women!’’. Stating that they have reached out to tens of thousands of women in over 90 countries through different NGOs, Eda Demir said: “Weconnect was founded in 2009 and we have been supporting this NGO since 2017 because we know that if we support women business owners, this will be also advantageous for the company because women businesses are agile, fast, creative and surely competitive.
For this reason, we make 3 billion USD of our purchases from local and women groups. Our target for 2025 is 6 billion USD. Weconnect allows us to meet with women business owners. Our goal is to enable other corporations to benefit from this opportunity through this collaboration. We conduct activities and by doing the 7th edition, we have reached out to more than 300 valuable women business owners so far. 5 women entrepreneurs have had the opportunity to introduce their projects in the sessions held within the scope of the event. These projects were rated by the votes of the jury. In this regard, one jury member will provide mentoring support to each woman entrepreneur. This includes women into the supply chain! Stating that Weconnect International has been operating in the world since 2009 and in Turkey since 2013, Nurdan Gündoğdu, Director of the Weconnect Turkey said: “Our goal is to include women business owners in more than 140 countries in the supply chain of global companies and organizations. Thanks to our efforts, more than 17 thousand women entrepreneurs registered on the Wecommunity platform take the chance to expand into global markets by reaching out to more than 180 corporate members".
